Much fear is being posted about division.
In the book of Matthew, we read about sheep and goats.
The core message of the Parable of the Sheep and Goats is that God’s people will love others. Good works will result from our relationship to the Shepherd. Followers of Christ will treat others with kindness, serving them as if they were serving Christ Himself. The unregenerate live in the opposite manner. While “goats” can indeed perform acts of kindness and charity, their hearts are not right with God, and their actions are not for the right purpose – to honor and worship God.
I submit to you, the division we are seeing is the result of these two groups being diametrically opposed to one another. The current crises have drawn a line in the sand and are showing who are His and who are not.
Jesus said in Matthew 10:34:
“Do not assume that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
There should NEVER be ‘peace’ with darkness. There SHOULD BE DIVISION of light and dark.
“What fellowship does light have with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14
Rather than focusing on this ‘division’ and saying it’s ‘bad,’ we need to FOCUS on the people who do not know Christ and who need us to show THEM the love of God.
There are so many opportunities to do this in so many ways.
Read the rest of Mathew to see the many ways we can reach people for God:
“34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
The book of James says:
“Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” 1:27
Don’t worry about the false anxiety of division. True unity is also happening. Praise God for it. He keeps us on track. Give people to God when you have to, but don’t feel obligated to try and ‘fix’ them. The Holy Spirit can work on peoples’ hearts. Keep praying for them while asking Him to send you those you CAN minister to. Let’s keep about our Father’s business and don’t waste precious time on ‘divisions.’
